The long-awaited sequel Stree 2 hit theatres and is ruling the box office, unstoppable. This horror-comedy film has had Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao on the screen together, totally breaking all records and grossing ₹135.55 crore just within five days of its release, according to the box office tracking portals.
In three days, Stree 2 raked in ₹163 crore from theatres in the country, while another ₹25 crore came in from overseas markets.
And that easily means that the film will cross the ₹200-crore mark globally by the end of this weekend and prove its status as being a massive hit.
Facing stiff competition from other major Bollywood releases, Stree 2 has held quite well.
Despite facing the challenges, the earnings jumped by more than 40 per cent. On its third day on August 17, early estimates, the movie raked in ₹44 crores with a decent Hindi occupancy rate of 61.96 per cent.
Trade analysts are quite confident that Stree 2 will enter the elitist ₹200 crore club by Monday itself, when the extended weekend for Raksha Bandhan is on in parts of the country.
It shall then become one of the very few Bollywood films to reach that milestone, apart from the Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD. Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter couldn’t make it to the mark and ended at ₹199.45 crore.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, produced by Jio Studios and Dinesh Vijan, Stree 2 is sequel to the 2018 flick that straddles elements of horror and comedy.
It centres on Vicky, essayed by the gifted Rajkummar Rao, a tailor who loves the enigmatic Shraddha Kapoor, located in the ghostly town of Chanderi. It also stars Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana, whose performances in the movie made it worthwhile.
As this film hurtles toward its next milestone, one thing is for sure: Stree 2 is an unstoppable force that is going to write its name boldly in the annals of Bollywood history.
