Tesla, SpaceX, and X Employees Favor Kamala Harris Despite Musk’s Support for Trump

Despite Elon Musk being loud and proud about his support for Donald Trump, it seems like a good chunk of his own employees aren’t exactly on the same page. In fact, workers across Musk’s companies—Tesla, SpaceX, and X (which you probably still call Twitter)—are putting their money behind Kamala Harris instead.

According to OpenSecrets, Tesla employees have donated $42,824 to Harris’ campaign, almost double the $24,840 they’ve given Trump. SpaceX workers? They’re siding with Harris, too—$34,526 for her, and just $7,652 for Trump.

Over at X, the numbers are even more lopsided: Harris raked in $13,213, while Trump barely hit the $500 mark.

Now, these aren’t exactly billionaire-level donations, but they do paint a picture.

Musk has been openly railing against “woke” politics, calling it a “woke-mind virus” like it’s some kind of evil spell.

Yet, his employees seem to be rolling their eyes and going in the opposite direction.

Let’s not forget, Musk hasn’t always been on Team Trump.

He actually supported Biden back in 2020, but things have clearly shifted.

Musk has been cozying up to Trump lately, with Trump even hinting at putting Musk in charge of a government efficiency commission if he wins the 2024 election.

That’d be an interesting partnership, to say the least.

What’s Musk saying about all this? Absolutely nothing—he’s kept quiet about where his employees stand politically.

But the fact that so many of them are backing Harris, especially in California (where a lot of Musk’s workers are based), shows that there’s a bit of a disconnect between the CEO’s megaphone and his workforce’s wallets.

Ross Gerber, a Tesla investor, even chimed in, saying that Musk’s California-based workforce is pretty rooted in blue-state politics. And Musk’s decision to move SpaceX and X to Texas over a California gender-identity law? That’s a whole other story.

Gerber thinks it could mean losing out on top talent in California—because, let’s face it, there’s a lot of it there.

So yeah, Musk’s employees might work for a guy who’s all in for Trump, but their donation habits tell a different story.
