Atal bhujal yojana or Atal Jal Yojana was launched by prime minister Narendra Modi on the Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Birthday. This scheme is named after him. The Aim of this Government scheme to provide pure drinking water to every household.
What is Atal bhujal yojana
The government planned to implement this scheme in more than 8350 villages in seven states of India.
It’s a Central Government scheme that aims to improve Groundwater management with the help of community participation.
Government prepare a plan and laid the roadmap to spend 6000 crore Rupees over the span of 5 years from the year 2020 to the year 2025.

Overview of Scheme
The primary objective of this Scheme is “to improve the management of groundwater resources in the water-stressed areas of the selected States.” This will be achieved by implementing appropriate investments/management actions led by the community through the convergence of various ongoing /new central and state schemes.
This Scheme was launched to ensure that Groundwater resources will be sustained for a longer time period.
The scheme will not only ensure the sustainability of pure water resources but also offers rejuvenation of already available water resources.
This scheme aims to achieve its goals with the help of community support and to achieve Community support they planned the Awareness programs, Capacity building, and new scheme that will go to help improve groundwater supply.
Currently, this scheme is priorities the seven states Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Haryana.
In those 7 States, this Yojana is going to implemented in eight thousand three hundred and fifty-gram panchayats across 78 districts.
This scheme of central Government has two major part:
- Strengthening the Capacity of the institutional to help groundwater management so the Groundwater monitoring, Capacity will be improved.
- Incentives the states for helping and encouraging the water security plans and so on.
